RELEASE: New Hampshire Young Democrats Celebrate Municipal Election Victories Across the State
Manchester, NH - New Hampshire Young Democrats President Lucas Meyer released the following statement in response to the overwhelming victories of NHYD candidates in tonight’s municipal elections:
“The historic victories of young candidates across our state show that New Hampshire is hungry for the next generation to help lead our state,” said NHYD President Lucas Meyer.
“Our state continues to struggle to attract and retain young people because of misguided priorities that place young people and families as an after thought. But the New Hampshire Young Democrats invested an unprecedented level of time and resources into these local races because we are committed to recruiting, training, and electing the next generation of Granite State leadership. That is the only way we can make sure the issues most important to young people are prioritized and to ensure there are young leaders working with a real sense of urgency to create the change we need.
“We congratulate the young, diverse, and progressive candidates who won hard-fought races tonight, and we look forward to working with them to make real progress for New Hampshire families and to create a stronger future for all young people across our state.”
The Young Democrats supported and advised a record 34 young candidates, most of them first-time candidates, running for city office in Rochester, Somersworth, Dover, Manchester, Berlin, Portsmouth, Concord, Claremont, and Nashua to build youth power, a deep bench for the party, and make New Hampshire a better place for young people to live, work, attend school, and raise a family.
In the weeks and months leading up to the election, NHYD helped to organize and execute direct voter contact in support of these candidates across the state, holding 19 days of action with 165 volunteers knocking on over 10,000 doors and making over 1,500 calls.
In addition to the unprecedented coordinated field campaign, NHYD invested more than $30,000 in candidate contributions, direct mail, and staff time. This is a record investment for NHYD’s election program and a clear indicator that we are committed to the future of young leadership at a state and local level.
