Testimony on Campus Sexual Violence - David Millman
Thank you to DAVID MILLMAN, student at Dartmouth College. David came to Concord on February 20, 2020 to testify in support of SB 679, a bill co-sponsored by Young Dem State Rep. Cam Kenney relative to campus sexual violence. As aN Ally, we recognize David's solidarity and activism to speak out about pervasive rape culture on campus in hopes of passing this monumental legislation to protect college students from future sexual violence. SB 679, authored by Senator Martha Hennessey and now included in the HB 705 Omnibus bill, would implement comprehensive resources and staff to support future victims and survivors, and proactively educate students on this issue. We hope the NH State legislature will pass this legislation on June 30, 2020.
ABOUT DAVID:
My Name is David Millman. I just finished my Freshman year at Dartmouth College. I’m studying Government and Public Policy here in New Hampshire. Growing up in Richmond, VA, I first got involved in politics testifying for environmental legislation at the Virginia General Assembly after seeing plastic pollution affect the river in my hometown. Since coming to Dartmouth, I’ve continued to advocate for environmental issues, most recently as a member of a student group campaigning for the College to increase sustainability. I have also become involved with campus sexual assault prevention, serving as a member of the Student Advisory Board for the Sexual Assault Prevention Project at Dartmouth. Recently, I have helped organize support for NH Senate Bill 679 (An Act Relative to Policies on Sexual Assault in Higher Education Institutions) with the Every Voice Coalition as the NH Co-Chair, and, in February this year, I testified before the NH Senate Judiciary Committee in support of the bill.
